It's a crowded wildlife-urban interface from the marsh, to the river, the railroad, the 6 lane 101 freeway, and a housing development next to the freeway. No wonder the birds were hiding.

Beautiful Tim! Lovely set..
Nice and sharp.. Manual focus?

Looks like your tinkering is keeping Nifty in the game! :-D

That one looks like an outrigger (#14071 top)

Nifty seems to work better in cool temperatures, but "better" is a relative term. It was a mix of autofocus and manual focus.

Yes, that is an outrigger canoe. They are out there frequently, usually with a crew of 6. They also compete against other canoe clubs in northern California.

I have better shots of outrigger, but they were taken with "Not So Nifty" lenses, so I can't post them here, but I posted one in the Sony lounge thread.

Nice to see this lens is still making it's rounds. I've been out of the loop and haven't been on POTN for a while. I was expecting to see this thread closed down by now but it's nice to see it's still kicking. ow many lenses are still floating around?

Yes, it is nice to see this thread still kicking. I wanted to host Nifty again but unfortunately I have changed my camera system to Sony a7iii and there's just no way for me to attach Nifty to it. No more Canon for me. It was a nice adventure with this little lens and I enjoyed it very much. Hopefully someone else will carry on :)
And if miraculously an adapter such as Metabones falls from the sky onto my doorstep i will host Nifty again... :p

You're right. He's a lucky devil. I can't justify spending money on Metabones for 1 lens that isn't even my own. No more Canon gear in my arsenal.

I've used "retired" Nifty on my Sony A7R3 and my Canon 5DsR. The retired Nifty AF is not reliable, and I prefer to use Nifty in Manual Focus mode on the Sony.

I'm doing a 3,000 mile road trip to Yellowstone, the Tetons, Glacier NP, and a few other places in a few weeks, and I plan to take Nifty and the Sigma MC-11 adapter along for a some shots.

I have 7 Canon "L" lenses, so it's easy to justify the Metabones IV and the Sigma MC-11.

I've thought about going completely native Sony, but can't justify the expense for the kind of hobby photography I do.

Other than a Sony 24-105 lens in 2018, and a used Fujifilm X-100F in 2019, I've stopped buying camera gear.

I was experimenting with a new softbox and lighting this afternoon. I pulled retired Nifty out for a couple of shots to make certain he'll be operational for the road trip.

Thanks, joayne, we're looking forward to it, but have a ton of stuff to do in the next few days before we leave.

It is a joy to play, thanks! There are some more shots of it in the Scavenger Hunt thread.

Would love to see a shot of your spftbox and lighting arrangement for these shots.

Great color rendition, too.

Thanks

Thanks. I'm on vacation and don't have access to the BTS shots right now. I'll post them when I'm back home.
