A brown hairstreak butterfly. Only seen this once before in the garden.

Perhaps there's a colony nearby? Lucky you, if so - we have to drive nearly 30 miles to the nearest one we know of.

They're the only Hairstreak I know that will readily sit with open wings. Purples seem reluctant and are probably way-up in a tree anyway; Greens, White Letter, and Blacks - never.
