No kidding. I remember how many times film photographers would notify their clients in advance how their cameras only had one film slot and there was a 50% chance of losing the images because there wasn't a second one copy of their wedding photos.

Lots of things can happen, you can be walking to your car and get knocked over the head and lose all your dual-card-slot bodies and cards.


Seriously, I really do want dual card slots and I even refused to buy the EOS R at first because of its single card slot, until I actually got one in my hands. Happily using the EOS R for now and plan to upgrade as soon as Canon finishes building my next camera!


Just because the EOS R isn't a professional grade body doesn't mean you can't get professional results from it.

RF 50mm

When I opened the page and only had half the 1st image on screen before spotting the EXIF, the thought came in an instant "RF 50mm 1.2 !!" ... I got mine shortly after my Zeiss Milvus sold, and I've felt the new Canon 50mm 1.2 renders as beautifully as that Zeiss.

Guess the new RF 85mm may be similar, but I've seen for certain what the 50mm is like.

It's worth adding, one other lens I find to have a Zeiss-like beauty in images, is the Tamron 85mm 1.8 VC .. the Tamron isn't technically as great in very way, but it has a special something about the look.

Id love some RF glass but all my ef lenses are good.. i used the EF 50mm 1.2 mostly then switched to the EF 135 f2L. There is just something about this camera makes them perform a lot better.. Idk maybe its just me

I very much enjoy the Canon 135 too. Just saw a video by Dustin Abbott showing how the Zeiss 135mm Apo-Planar, old model, is better than the Canon or Sigma for total image quality. And I'm laying low on getting a 135mm, deciding to go manual with the Zeiss, or light weight with the Canon. They are all very nice anyway.

Yesterday, I shared this video in the 5D mk iv thread, in relation to 135mm lenses. The photographer was able to focus better manually with the Zeiss at one point, than the Sigma with its auto focus. Between this video, and Dustin Abbott, its why I'm considering the Zeiss 135mm. I would not use it a lot, and don't mind using a tripod if need be.

Tried it a couple months ago and didn’t really feel it. Visited my local store and they had one that had been traded in, less than 10k shots. Grabbed it and the matching 24-105R for $2200. Got the Control Ring adapter too, might go back and get the VND adapter. Now to think though what I shoot and some new glass.

Any highly recommended lenses to consider to senior and family portraits?

Here are some quick test shots with the RF 24-240 when the sun comes out instead of the rather drab shot from earlier. For the purposes of a walkabout take only one lens scenario, it's perfect.

With the exception of the first flowers shot, they are all taken at the widest aperture for the given focal length. They're far from high art, but at least you have some more images to see the image quality from this lens on an R body. All processed in LR CC, so they have the ACR CA issue in places noted in my post above - if you could look at them 100% cropped that is.

I'll let the thread get back to moans about which button is in the wrong place or whatever seems to vex some people about the R

RF24-240 is not listed in the POTN database - who needs to add it?

Thank you for posting this. I am surprised at the "vignette" at the wide end. Looks like the profile crops it. Looks like it is really a 26-240. Does it get better at other apertures?

This is from the Tamron 85mm I mentioned a few replies back. Not super sharp, but has a very nice look in the images. Very affordable.

This shot is from my 5DS ..

I left the EOS R at home during this redwood coast trip, but the lens as an option is the point of this post. It would work as well or better on the EOS R.

Come to think of it, i do have the Canon 85mm f1.8 that i have not tried in the R yet. At least i dont think. But ill be bringing it on my next session with me this sunday along with thr 50 f1.2L and the 135 f2L. Seems like some excellent focal lengths for portraits.
