Looking forward to giving this lens a full workout! Got back from the trip last week and finally getting all the photos edited. It was a good trip. I took my 15 year old daughter and my goal was for her to have a great experience and possibly get some decent photos. I realized early on that she wasn't too excited about getting up before dawn, so I backed off on some of the hard core wildlife viewing. We still had some cool encounters although we saw only a few bears. The only grizzlies we saw were way up on a hill in Lamar Valley. Still, every day in Yellowstone is great, and a trip doesn't have to be perfect to still be awesome. ![]() 2. The first morning we were up early for a setting Full Moon. I took shots at a couple of locations (this is the second). While shooting the first location, in the darkness, we had a black bear cross the road less than 100 feet from us: 3. Later that day, I saw a juvenile Bald Eagle hanging out in a tree close to Lake Yellowstone. He was slightly below eye level, which allowed the lake to serve as the background. He was very nice to hang around for quite some time, until some sunlight hit his face:IMAGE LINK: https://photos.smugmug.com …2019-2067-XL.jpg&lb=1&s=A ![]() 4. Of course there were lots of bison.IMAGE LINK: https://photos.smugmug.com …2019-0888-XL.jpg&lb=1&s=A ![]() 5. (recession is on the way!) ![]() Too true Mark, I guess the 500PF is a new and shine toy that people like to show off, whereas the 500F4 is a classic in its umpteenth iteration so doesnt really get showcased; it just provide input to many other threads - I know most of mine end up in other birding or aviation threads. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A coupla bodies and a few lenses

Anyway, no chance of a fire sale here; this lens will stay with me I reckon until either I am no longer capable of swinging it around all day, or I win the lottery and (maybe) jump ship ..... Anyway here a few - other than my usual birds or aircraft - taken at 500mm, 700mm or 1000mm - some already posted in other threads - to keep the thread going. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Appreciate it! I do like the look of the 500 F4 > the Nikon PF, so it comes down to the cost/weight and of course willingness to switch systems. Then there's the dilemema as each camera generation gains anywhere from .25-.75 stops in efficiency, but I'm just not thrilled about anything above ISO400 on a canon crop, thus the thought of either going full frame again, or needing faster lens, or both. Never ending battle!!!! https://chrismarkes.smugmug.com/
