these are not uncommon in our eucalypts (Gum trees)
I grew up knowing them as woodmen
Not the best images but their relative translucency didn't help much
About 6-8mm long
We don't have termites here - not the destructive ones that eat the house :-(

Looks like a type of Pscoptera. Commonly known as wood lice. Notice I said "looks", I really don't have a clue, but sure looks like them.

Thanks. Unfortunately I can't find anything useful about them.
I've only ever seen them like this but was surprised at the size variation.
I would expect they're adults but that's a guess.
They're just part of life here for those who burn firewood.
That firewood is often riddled with their tunnels

I know the end result is long smooth eaten out tunnels in the wood.
I'll have to split some more wood and see what else I can discover..

Thanks! Yeah, I had no idea what it was at first, it is very "mantis-like" but as it turns out, these are basically pollen eaters, so not predatory at all in this phase. Some of the coolest eyes I have seen on an insect though
