Thank you so much Renata. The single, delicate flower was such a contrast to its harsh and bleak surrounds.

Very tiny flower, I think it belongs to the Asteraceae family. Back about a 100 or so years ago when I was in college this plant family was called Compositae. Don't know why they changed the name. First photo is cropped from 6 mb to .66mb. Would that be considered an 85% crop? Second picture is with a nickle for scale.
