Focus was the primary issue that I needed to work on. All the shots were just not quite there. Of course even though I took it off auto focus it got bumped just a bit off focus and I didn't realize until I was processing them.

Found a perfect little piece of paradise near Lake Pukaki, NZ, to spend the night... The same night that there was auroras and a beautiful Milky Way, without moon. What else can yo ask for?

I totally freaked out though when I heard what sounded like a possum. A very weird noise, like he was very angry. I'm so glad I managed to get the shot anyway... :-P

The perfectionist in me is just disappointed that the arch is not centered over the mountain range. Doesn't matter, this one will end up on my wall when I go back home. It's only the third time I get to have the entire arch. Third time's a charm, right ? ;-)a

Thank you. Yes, those are the two Magellanic Clouds.

Chuffed with the way my torch lit up this rock. Thankfully the rock hid a lot of the light from a city nearly 200 kilometres away. The zodiacal light was a bonus :-)

Really like this!! It’s almost as if the light pollution from the distant city is shining towards the Milky Way core

Thanks xpfloyd. The white beam of light is actually zodiacal light from the setting sun interacting with ice crystals (I believe). The city glow is a bit lower and mostly hidden. It was about 200 kilometers away. I think there's some showing towards the left of the rock. It does look pretty cool though :-)

I find myself rechecking thru the night just to make sure. It's easy to just move the MF ring a bit and then it's all mushy.

Finally managed to stitch this bugger. Balancing the lighting was a real pain... I need to concentrate more when I'm shooting :-)
Thankfully the rock hides most of the glow from the city almost directly behind it nearly 200km away

Wonderful comp and execution. Looks a bit too cool (blue) on my monitor though.

Thanks David. Yes, I actually warmed up the foreground and then added a bit of blue back into the sky... I may have overdone that a bit!

Here's another from the same night but a little bit closer to the city. No rocks to hide the glow this time...
