Ray.Petri I’m full of useless facts ![]() More info | Oct 07, 2019 16:07 | #854 avondale87 wrote in post #18936987 ![]() St Barnabas Anglican Church ~ Sheffield The church’s foundation stone was laid on Sunday 15 February 1891. Around 1978 converted to house Wife and I were married there. In early (my) days when attending church, us little tackers would get a bit restless and fidgety and play with the pennies for the collection. They'd make a heck of a din dropping to the floor and rolling along the boards only to make that characteristic wobble and final clonk as it crashed to the boards. That was a sign to the vicar it was 'now time to take the collection, can we have hymn number .... please' I used to toll the bell for Sunday service until it was decided they couldn't teach me to actually ring the blessed thing as I wasn't announcing a funeral. (some days it felt like that to this energetic youngster off the farm) Dad had a nice Humber he'd bought out from Nottingham and one day he loaned it to the vicar only for him to roll it on a bend going to another church in the district. That church carries many memories from the distant past. It shaped a lot of our lives and for the past 12 months I was involved in reshaping the intersection.
