Yea, I'm glad I didn't get photo pit passes this year because of that reason. I went as far east as I could during the show and was mostly happy. The Friday before, when most of the statics arrived, I was outside of the airport and was really happy getting the stuff coming in.

Hi Golfecho, how do you tell ?

Cheers,
mike

Well for starters, the A, C and E are all single seaters, with the B, D and F being two-seaters. The best way to tell a Hornet from a Super Hornet is to look at the intakes. The A-D models (Hornets) have rounded engine inlets. The E-G (Super Hornets) all have rectangular inlets. The other way is to set a Hornet and a Super Hornet side by side (not possible in your photo). The Super Hornet is physically about 25% larger. Many folks think the basic airframe is the same, but not so. It was up-sized considerably. Your pic shows a rounded intake, thus eliminating the "Super" version. And since nearly every A and B model have been retired (except unique users like NASA), it could only be a C model.

This is horrible and sad news. I've seen Nine-O-Nine at a few SoCal air shows.

Just last April the Planes of Fame lost their Northrop Flying Wing and pilot.
