For whatever it is worth I took a laptop and "upgraded" to Windows 10. THAT was a terrible experience. I took the same laptop, completely cleaned the hard drive and installed Windows 10... MUCH better.

I was using a seperate laptop before that was fitted with win 7 Pro, but it had a bad screen, dead batt and BSOD so I took the plunge saw a deal for an Asus win 10 laptop and brought it.
I have been tranfering things over including the download file I had saved in my old laptop, I simply loaded it onto a mem card then loaded it into this win 10 Asus and just did a fresh install of the download from my old laptop.

I assume the programs that are installed are the same architecture what ever windows system you run it on another words LR5.7 will install the same framework in windows 7 or 10?

I'm not sure of that answer but I believe there to be some inherent differences. At least it made a difference in my experience.

Most installation files for software are made for both win7 and win10. The only difference might be if you switched from 32 bit to 64 bit. (Not sure, if there is a 32 bit LR5.7 version?). But other then that you should be fine just using the 'old' installation files.

Its great that that they fix stuff, but that's little help when its your computer that won't boot on a Tuesday morning because Microsoft decided you needed a whole new version of Windows last night. For the record, I use, like, and recommend Win10. It DO NOT like them pretending my PC is a simple mobile device that needs a new OS build all the time.

Simply turn off automatic updates. Then you can wait to see all the good or bad write-ups and chose when to update. You can delay updates using the capabilities within Windows 10 or chose a 3rd party tool. See https://www.thewindowsclub.com/wau-manager-windows-update (external link) for some details.

I'm not a LR user, but you might be entitled to version 6. See https://helpx.adobe.com …ersion-apps-download.html (external link) for the download.

Not sure how that will work - I thought you either had to pay for it or run the trial limited offer.

Maybe, as I said I don’t use LR. But LR 5.7 with Windows 10 seems to be a mixed bag as far as stability. Hopefully you’ll be like many and not have any issues.

What version of LR 5.7 did you use under Win7, the 32-bit or the 64-bit? What version of LR 5.7 are you trying to use under Win10, the 32-bit or the 64-bit?

If both were 32-bit, things would be pretty similar between Win7 and Win10, although Win10 put the program itself in a different place than Win7.
If both were 64-bit, things would be pretty similar between Win7 and Win10, although Win10 put the program itself in a different place than Win7.
But if Win7 was 32-bit, and Win10 was 64-bit, the program itself (e.g. photo postprocessing app) might well have significant differences in different software executable modules in 32-bit realm vs. in 64-bit realm!

Thanks for posting this, John.
That WAU Manager looks to be a very useful tool.

From everything I've gleaned on the topic, the only Win10 versions able to natively
stop and fully control updates are the ones released to the corporate world, namely
the VLK(Volume License Key) and SLK(Server License Key) versions.
Home version allows some delay to be set, Pro version allows further delay of the
"Feature Updates," but neither provides the same control as was given from XP up to 7.

Interesting thought here, are you sure you are running a 64-bit copy of Windows 10 Home. I reviewed your previous thread about your old PC issues and what you bought as a replacement and no where do I find mention of either 32 or 64 bit. It might be a good idea for you to check on what you have!

The easiest way to check is to type in "Device Specifications in the search box at the lower left corner. You should get a screen similar to that shown below.

How can I turn off - asking for a pin on start up and every time it goes to sleep, I had to set it up when I first set the laptop up.

Use a local account instead of a Microsoft account to logon. You then have the option of not using password.

Microsoft has been getting more aggressive about pushing Microsoft accounts lately to the point where they don't even give the option of a local account any more when you first boot up a new PC. One way around this is to intentionally not connect to the Internet until you've created a local account. You can always convert to a local account or create a local account after signing on with the Microsoft account. Its still annoying and indicative of a company that wants you to do things their way, not your way.
