we are not really ready here yet either. last year and this year the bouncy weather has created no real prime time for fall colors. some turned to fast and some late. I had to search and isolate this section to make it look like this. And thank you very much!

Cheers,
JOE

Okay, so I got a question. About a week ago, I posted a couple images here I had taken with the R, I ran them through adobe dng converter on my Manjaro Linux box. I then used I think RawTherapee to process the images. Now, using both the 80D and R with the Linux rig, (aside from it being a bit of a pita for the learning curve) the images usually come out okay, but they always seem to be missing or lacking something, life or dimension or something, they just look kind of flat and this is something I have mentioned before. (The images look really flat on my pixel 2 xl)

Tonight, I fired up my Windows 10 rig which has DPP and don't require DNG converter or even the use of adobe products, copied the images to my drive loaded up DPP and also this thread so I could compare the RawTherapee processed images to what the windows box would show.

Well, I was surprised. The images processed on the Linux rig (posted here) looked much better on Windows. Not only that, the raw images in DPP where full of pop and life, and I had not even touched them yet!

So, I got to ask and I do suspect I know what is going on. I figure that, even though this is the same monitor, The windows box has the correct (or better) color profiles baked in, whereas Linux might not have the proper color support or profiles or just not totally reading things correctly?

The monitor is a calibrated BenQ SW2700PT photography monitor.

Is this just a color profile issue? I did notice DPP has the color space sat for sRGB I am not sure what the default of the rest of the windows system is (probably the same) nor did I catch the default color space for the Linux box. Next time I boot it up, if I remember, I will have to give it a check.

Thoughts? (Other then just, "USE WINDOWS!") :p

Not sure why, but this didn't come through the upload process very well, lost some sharpness. Anyway, like how the camera handled this scene.

Nice. There are aspen in the hills near here. I should take a drive this year and enjoy their colors during autumn.

Itching to get out and try some serious BIF. Since getting the R we had a break in the rainy weather for a few days followed by a record breaking snow storm. Toppled trees all over the city. We lost power for a few hours. We were lucky as some waited for days to get it back. The tip of that branch was over my head on Friday. My neighbour is out with the chainsaw as I'm writing. I'm heading out to help right away. Not the best time for BIF at is this time of year as it is.

Trying to decide between 5d IV or EOS R! Help!! If I go with R, Which Rf Lens should I go for? 50mm is my favorite focal length, 85mm is my favorite look of portraits, and I love the idea of the 28-70 being so versatile!

What do you mostly shoot? BIF and sports? I'd probably look at the 5D4. Mostly static subjects then the R. Not that the R can't do BIF or sports, it just isn't quite ready for the big league yet. It is more challenging to work with. I sold my 5D4 to get the R but I have a 7D2 as a back up which I haven't touched since getting the R. I wanted to get my foot in the ML door. I don't ever see myself buying another DSLR.

That is a pretty heavy lens. Do you need F2? Perhaps the RF 24-70 might be better suited for your needs.

This was like shooting fish in a barrel for the R so gease will be easy. The prop job was faster but the R handled it well. I haven't had a chance at faster birds like ducks and gulls.

My wife borderline lets me test a new lens on her. I was a little skeptical with the RF 24-105. I had a EF 24-7O II which I know will out resolve it the and especially the new RF 24-70. Had to make room for the salary cap :-). The 24-105 is just going to be a general/walk around lens. I don't really need F2.8 anymore and it is half the price. Still has CA on outsides like the original 24-105 but far less distortion and the corners aren't too bad. I hate CA. It did surprise me. 100% crop at 105mm.
