The 28-70 is everything I need. No regrets whatsoever. Even if I had the 50 1.2 or 85 1.2 I think I would very rarely take it out. I'm pretty sure only us photographer/gear enthusiasts care about ultra creamy destroyed bokeh ballz. :o

I see you also have the 35mm 1.8. Is that worth getting or should I just use my money for one of the RF L lenses? (I already have a 50mm 1.8)

It's an OK lens. I much prefer 35mm over 50mm because I like a little more dramatic feel and being closer to my subject. However, it focuses pretty slow being that it's a macro lens and STM lens (not USM)a--so not really good for action shots or someone running towards you. It does make a nice lens for video, however, and AF is quick enough and the IS is nice. It's super light and small with weather sealing so it's my go-to lens if I am just taking personal shots and I want to travel light.

MFA'ing was the bane of my life when I used the 7Dii. I was constantly amazed by the number of people who said they had never had any problems with their gear and that every camera/lens combo they'd ever had was perfect.

Roll on to the EOS R and so many people are saying that their lenses are much better on the R. Either the cross section of people is completely different or people simply didn't know that they had MFA issues. My money's on the latter :-)

For something to do I tried my 100-400 and 1.4 III with the battery test. At 560mm my 7D2 needs +13 and the 5D4 needed +8.

Long ago I read DOF was 1/3 -2/3. We MFA it is 50/50. I was wondering if factory settings and very thin DOF might have an unexpected change we aren't used to. Doesn't look like it.

I find it interesting because when MFA most of the time it needs a few ticks in the + direction. Rarely negative.

Those images are so grainy they're almost unusable, huh? :D

Yeah, I was really hesitant to post them. I hate the super-grainy images this camera produces :-D :p

Anyone using the Sigma 35mm f1.4? Is it performing as it should on the R. I got one in my sights (used) and i may just pick it up, or get the RF f1.8 for the same price? IDK i am not sure i am ready for RF lenses yet even though i have an R..

Went out to try to catch some Rainbow Bee Eaters in flight... Not a chance in hell lol. Had to settle for some larger folk

These are magnificent - birds and photos.
Very nice indeed.

Canon's RF 35 is a pretty slow focusing lens. main reason being that it's a macro lens and doesn't even have a focus range limiter switch like most macro lenses. It's terrible if you're trying to track movement. Otherwise, it's a very nice and light / sharp lens that's perfect for personal/vacation/travel.

Here is one that is a tough bird to get a shot of. The R did pretty good getting this little kinglet. This was at 1/160th which is pushing it with this species, they almost never stop moving.

It's a great little lens, nice and light weight, relatively compact, and naturally very sharp. Great price for excellent versatility, I can't see any downsides. My wife uses it for her product review shots, and it's also turned into her family documentation setup; I haven't seen her use any other lens since she got it. I will admit, she's a much better candid/documentary photographer than I am, whereas I completely destroy her when it comes to birds and nature shots :p

1/160 is insane! Have to hand it to you, Rob, you're a much more patient guy than I am, I'd go crazy trying to get a Kinglet using the R. How far were you from the little guy?
