i dont think its a very strong image in color or black and white

I can see what you are struggling with there, I do think the black and white is better and I like it. I would think a little selecting dodging and burning could liven it up even more! Nice image.

I like this and find it fascinating.
The erosion on the rocks suggest to me the main flow over millennia has been low as the eroded bedrock is just in a very central and small part of the stream.
Reminds me of an old stone staircase where the centre is worn down from constant use.
