The Ad200 is the first strobe I have worked with...is it not common to be able to turn others down so low. I really like that feature.

Until relatively recently studio strobes were rather basic devices. Manual only, capable of limited ratios of power, no HSS. Things have developed rapidly in last couple of years.

I still shoot everything with strobes manually, even though my AD200s and AD600 have TTL. Habit I guess, and I don't want the camera to make decisions for me. :D

everything I have don't with them, I still shoot manually too, I just like working the light the way I want to create light and dark.
