It's absolutely nothing better than being on a hike and you come face to face with an exceptionally beautiful creature such as this. It spots you and you spot it. You reach for your camera, your brain going to aperture, iso, shutter speeds but you get it right. The subject either retreats deeper into protection or allows and blesses you with the absolute miracle of the moment. One of the many reasons why we do what we do

Hi Mike...

Fantastic photograph...great eye contact.

Tom

Thanks Tom. He was at the Gilbert Riparian Preserve eyeing up the same birds as me...with different intent, though :-)

I posted this pic on the “birds in flight” thread in the Birds forum but I thought it might fit in with this thread, seeing as how this Great Grey was staring right at me at it flew just above the grass. It had just taken off of its perch and I appeared to be in the flight path

(This is a wild owl, not baited- I was just incredibly lucky!!)

Thanks!! I was standing on the road set up to take pictures while the owl
was perched when it took off towards me. I remember thinking to myself “well, this would be a pretty awesome way to die” lol
