That's a neat pic! . He looks like a very large, fully mature buck. . Was that pic taken in late May or early June? . I bet he's sporting a great big rack by now!

............... ............... ............... ............... ...............

Here's a pic of my buddy getting in position for some nice head-on images.

Notice that the buck in the foreground is all "bristled up", which shows that he is the dominant buck, and that the other buck is walking away in deference to his superiority. . Of course, that means that the smaller buck is presenting a great opportunity to my friend, while the larger buck will be somewhat obstructed, and hence more difficult to shoot. . It always seems to go that way! . Murphy's Law at work.

Interesting that one looks to still be in full velvet and the other is "hard horned". Nice photo of two fine deer.

I think our little UK roe deer might have it sussed. None of this taring around breeding before the hardships of winter just simply grow fur get fat. After a first summer of fairly regular contact with Roe I'm stunned by how little time they spend in their summer red coat. For some reason it has never occured to me before. You can just see the last of the red on her forehead as it gets swamped by the grey hairs of winter I do love these little deer

This doe was with one fawn came out of nowhere using the run I was using to wait and get my head straight after a fabulous encounter with another mun and two fawns, which sadly didn't yield a single frame,veggies:-(!! Made hand held, off my knee, no crop she was very close and jumpy as hell, really caught me by surprise. 1/1600 f5.6 iso 6400
