Non moving objects = yes

Moving objects = maybe/be prepared for frustration/heavily mixed results/inconsistencies (I had the 5div+1.4xiii and just ditched both for the 70d/80d + bare 100-400ii and found for BIF with backrounds that make for more memorable shots, not your yawnfest blue sky backrounds, keeper rate skyrocketed).

It's a good investment however if you have money for it, but you'll be forced down to F8 and center point AF only. It's a great combo for landscapes/moon rise shots, stuff that isn't difficult but just needs more magnification.

Thank you! Well, I shoot moving subjects a lot - planes, cars, animals.

I have 70D, but found it's ability to track and focus on fast objects much worse than 6D2. That's why I chose 6D2 as a second camera

I have found that to get consistently good results requires good light, reasonably static subjects and good technique to avoid camera shake. Distant subject can be badly affected by atmospheric effects and will give poor image quality.

My x1.4 Extender does not get used very often, but I am very glad to have it in my kit so that when the few opportunities arise where it can be used, I can take advantage of it.

Note that on the Canon EOS R, I can move the AF point almost 100% around the viewfinder, so I am not limited to the centre point.

Cheers

Dennis

Thank you. I was thinking about it a lot, but currently finding more cons, than pros. I have 70D, but the image quality isn't best paired with 100-400 II so I upgraded to 6D2, which has wonderful IQ for me, but not enough reach though.

There's a big jump in quality from the 70d to 80d (there may be some nice deals on these right now)... you could checkout the 90d forums if you have a bit more to spend.

I think for full frame, I hate to say it, but it just needs to be a 500F4 or bigger = $$$ just my opinion

My High-speed internet connection. Photographed with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM
Mine is the top one on the right. Please note, contrary to what some might imagine, The UK is NOT a third world country!
Even the birds won't risk perching on it.

Good day,

can I please ask for advice? Would you recommend buying 1.4 Extender for 100-400 L II + 6D mkII combo? Is it worth it?

Thank you very much for help

Perhaps not directly answering your question but I use the 1.4 mkIII extender with the 100-400 mkII and I keep it on most of the time, only removing it if a large subject gets too close. But I am using a 7DII. I am pleased with the results but think there would be a noticeable difference, for the better, on a higher mega pixel body. In fact the 100-400II and the 1.4III have almost become integrated.

Well, I would love to have better second body than 70D is, but currently need to stick with what I have :D

Thanks. I will probably try it, test it and return it, if it's not good enough.

All good definition and sharp shots Mark. Well done!
What sort of snake is that in top shots?

I very much doubt if you will want to return it once you have it.:-)

Yeah they are fairly harmless and will take off... I did a few years ago do an iphone video of one and it attacked my phone (must have been an adult)... I found out later that while a bite wouldn't kill ya, it could still lead to a nasty infection and probably unending "this is not a bill" / co pay's and other waste of time bureaucracies of our current health "care" system. So I dropped the phone but still got a decent video kinda sorta...
