Well.. after a few days of shooting nothing but couches, dogs, carpet or anything inside the house, I finally got outside with the Sony. There's a lot to get use to, but I can tell you this... I LOVE THE ELECTRONIC VIEW FINDER!!! begging able to see the exposure BEFORE you shoot is amazing. I'm using adapted glass and will be for a while, but I'm happy with the results and can assume it will only get better. I actually really like the color and the saturation from the Sony as well.

I tried some "studio" shots last night with my Canon 6Dmkii and had some pretty severe back focus issues. Couldn't try it with the Sony as my transmitter hadn't come in yet, but will test it out as soon as it comes in.

Looking forward to many more "tests"...

Congrats on your decision. It took me a long time to fully embrace the EVF... but once I did, it was a perfect marriage for me.

Which Sony did you decide upon? Thanks for sharing your experience. Which adapter are you using?

So I picked up the A7Riv and MC11 adaptor. right at $4k. Not lens as I'm using my current canon lenses first. I was looking at the FE 85 F1.8.
Now I just have to get the nerve to open the box and try it. That's a HUGE investment for my wife and I. EXCITED AND NERVOUS!!!

I'm using the A9 +MC-11 on my Canon 500 f4 mkii , 300 f2.8 mkii, and 100-400 mkii.

I am very pleased with the results, you can't do video focus /tracking , but I rarely do anyway.

The latest firmware on the A9 and MC-11 give impressive results, definitely nice to be able to shoot 20fps in complete silence for wildlife which would otherwise disappear at the sound of a noisy shutter !

I seriously looked at the A9, but seeing how most of my shots these days are portraiture or landscapes, I ended up with A7Riv. I don't really need the 20fps.....YET!!

I ws never totally impressed with the AF or my Canon glass on my Sony camera...

My expectations when I purchased my first Sony mirrorless body (A6500) was to use my Canon glass with this body. In fact, the bundle that I bought on eBay included a Sigma MC-11 adapter. So, I had everything that I needed, right? A nice small body and several Canon L-lenses to use with the MC-11 adapter.

I found that the Canon glass did not mesh seamlessly with the Sony body. Plus the size of the Canon glass with the added MC-11 was not a handy combination. I then purchased a native Sony SEL f/1.8 OSS lens and absolutely loved it. I realized that this was the Sony experience that I was looking for. I just loved the Eye-AF but, when the A6400 was introduced with continuous EYE-AF and animal Eye-AF, I added that body to my kit.

I was still lacking a mid-range zoom lens which was my go-to glass on my Canon bodies. I shied away from the GM 24-70mm f/2.8 because of the size and cost. The Sony 28-70mm kit lens was my next choice. Size and price were fine but, IQ was not exactly what I was looking for. Next came the Sony-Zeiss 24-70mm f/4 OSS lens. The IQ of that lens didn't exactly blow my socks off either...

So. I kept much of my Canon gear (7D2 and 6D2 + some lenses) and waited for Sony to come out with a great mid-range zoom at at decent size and price and also waited for the mini-A9 that everyone was expecting to replace the A6500. When the A6600 and Sony APSC 16-50mm f/2.8 lens was introduced, I was underwhelmed with the A6600 and shocked at the price of the zoom.

I made an executive decision and purchased the A7iii body and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens and fell in love with that combination. I also like the Tamron lens on my crop bodies.

I have liquidated all of my Canon DSLR gear and I am very happy with my Sony setup.

BTW: I tried both the MC-11 and Metabones IV adapters with the Sony A6500 and never found a match for native Sony lenses in auto focus capability but, IQ was quite good... I did find that there was quite a difference in the auto focus performance of different Canon lenses with adapters. Shorter and newer lenses seemed to work best. My Canon 35mm f/2.0 IS lens was great but, my 70-200mm f/4L IS was just marginal. Funny thing, my older Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens worked pretty well while my 100mm f/2.8 Canon (non-L) Macro lens would not auto focus at all. My 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens was hit and miss. A favorite lens of mine for people shooting was a Canon mount Tokina 28-70mm f/2.8 ATF Pro which did not auto focus at all on my Sony body. That is a shame because I loved that lens for people but, the Tamron 28-75mm equals or surpasses the people shooting performance of the Tokina.

I have just had a 16x24 inch metal photo print done of this image which was shot with the Tamron 28-75mm lens on my Sony A6400 body.

I am blown away with the quality of the print which is now hanging on a wall in my office...

VERY NICE SHOTS... I can imagine that print, with all the vibrant color, on metal is outstanding. I have quite a few metal prints from a local vendor here in KY and I've never seen anything so nice. Never thought my prints would look so good.

I'm still learning the camera, but pretty happy with the Canon 24-70 f2.8 on the Sony for now. The wife and I have agreed no Sony Native Lenses until I recoup some of the cost of the camera gear just recently purchased. Can't say I disagree. We're trying to start a business and have quite a large amount invested with very little return at this point.

I'm a fan of the Tamron lenses as well, but surviving with 24-70 on my Sony and 70-200 f2.8 on my Canon Body. Eventually will probably go all Sony, but not sure. Really like the 6DmkII. Love the flip screen for low or high POV shots.

Thanks for sharing the photos... Love them.

And a selection of shots of the Dia de los Muertos celebration in Hollywood, CA done with that lens on the A6500...

As I said, I love that lens on both camera bodies...

I would love to see progress report from op on Canon lenses with Sony.
I would like to get A7s, but use my L zooms for a while.

So far I've had very little opportunity to shoot real subjects. But what I'm seeing so far, I'm really liking. I actually like the color a little better out of camera than I do my Canon. Focus doesn't seem to be an issue as far as I can tell. It's a little unbalanced with the lens on since the body is so light, but its nothing horrific.

At this point, although I'm still learning, it was a GREAT purchase.

Currently I shoot a Canon 7d Mark ii. I've been attracted to the abundant features of the Sony A7iii. I like the fact it is full frame, mirrorless and has the auto eye focus. If I purchased the Sony A7iii I would want to use my Canon glass. I'm reluctant to purchase the Sony because most of the reviews using Canon glass have acknowledged compatibility issues. I'm thinking about the Canon EOS R, but have not yet made the purchase.

I'm hoping to get out and hike this weekend. I'll have both my 24-70 and 70-200 with me so I hope to test out both lenses. I know for a fact the 24-70 operates well, but haven't used the 70-200 yet. Fingers crossed. I'll report back and hopefully with some pics as well.

I have the a7 III, and I can attest that the mk II version of the 70-200L IS works just great. I use it with both the MC-11 and Metabones..... no issues, except one. If all the way zoomed out, occasionally it will struggle to lock. If that happens I just zoom back to about 170, acquire subject then zoom back into 200. At all other focal lengths this doesn't happen. Not sure if that is just an issue with m7 70-200, because it is well battle warn. It has been a long time since I used this same lens on my old 1Dx mk II, I dumped that camera just a while ago after using the Sony. I saw little value in a camera body that cost 3x but didn't do anything significantly better, if better at all.

Just my experience - I am sure there are a lot of other opinions out there.

Hopefully you capture some photos an then share your experience. I'll be waiting to read your feedback. I'm almost ready to head over to the local camera shop and purchase the Canon EOS R.
