I ws never totally impressed with the AF or my Canon glass on my Sony camera...
My expectations when I purchased my first Sony mirrorless body (A6500) was to use my Canon glass with this body. In fact, the bundle that I bought on eBay included a Sigma MC-11 adapter. So, I had everything that I needed, right? A nice small body and several Canon L-lenses to use with the MC-11 adapter.
I found that the Canon glass did not mesh seamlessly with the Sony body. Plus the size of the Canon glass with the added MC-11 was not a handy combination. I then purchased a native Sony SEL f/1.8 OSS lens and absolutely loved it. I realized that this was the Sony experience that I was looking for. I just loved the Eye-AF but, when the A6400 was introduced with continuous EYE-AF and animal Eye-AF, I added that body to my kit.
I was still lacking a mid-range zoom lens which was my go-to glass on my Canon bodies. I shied away from the GM 24-70mm f/2.8 because of the size and cost. The Sony 28-70mm kit lens was my next choice. Size and price were fine but, IQ was not exactly what I was looking for. Next came the Sony-Zeiss 24-70mm f/4 OSS lens. The IQ of that lens didn't exactly blow my socks off either...
So. I kept much of my Canon gear (7D2 and 6D2 + some lenses) and waited for Sony to come out with a great mid-range zoom at at decent size and price and also waited for the mini-A9 that everyone was expecting to replace the A6500. When the A6600 and Sony APSC 16-50mm f/2.8 lens was introduced, I was underwhelmed with the A6600 and shocked at the price of the zoom.
I made an executive decision and purchased the A7iii body and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens and fell in love with that combination. I also like the Tamron lens on my crop bodies.
I have liquidated all of my Canon DSLR gear and I am very happy with my Sony setup.
BTW: I tried both the MC-11 and Metabones IV adapters with the Sony A6500 and never found a match for native Sony lenses in auto focus capability but, IQ was quite good... I did find that there was quite a difference in the auto focus performance of different Canon lenses with adapters. Shorter and newer lenses seemed to work best. My Canon 35mm f/2.0 IS lens was great but, my 70-200mm f/4L IS was just marginal. Funny thing, my older Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens worked pretty well while my 100mm f/2.8 Canon (non-L) Macro lens would not auto focus at all. My 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens was hit and miss. A favorite lens of mine for people shooting was a Canon mount Tokina 28-70mm f/2.8 ATF Pro which did not auto focus at all on my Sony body. That is a shame because I loved that lens for people but, the Tamron 28-75mm equals or surpasses the people shooting performance of the Tokina.

I have just had a 16x24 inch metal photo print done of this image which was shot with the Tamron 28-75mm lens on my Sony A6400 body.
I am blown away with the quality of the print which is now hanging on a wall in my office...
