I've seen them several times over the years at these locations but on both of these occasions they were ridiculously close. I read that numbers fell to below 20, 20 years ago in the UK and they have made a remarkable comeback in the UK to 162 at 78 sites. The turnaround in the bird’s fortunes has been helped by legal protection of habitats and funding through two environmental projects under the EU Life scheme to create new reedbed area's for them to live in. This one was so close I couldn't fit it in the frame. luckily I had time to take the Teleconverter off and get some great shots. Spectacular close-up, Paul! Excellent work. LD, or Mike

pcs I suddenly feel very old 3,639 posts Likes: 32203 Joined Apr 2010 More info | Nov 25, 2019 04:40 | #51409 Maybe not my best but first time I've seen one ever, let alone photograph one in my own garden! Although very light(I've read it's the smallest bird in Europe) it moved the Buddleia tops and before they stopped nodding it went to another one, very difficult to get sharp photo's. Would have liked higher ss but I've not yet bought that 400 2.8(or 600 4)
