My wife was patient enough to let me pull out the strobe and take a few photos this evening.

I have a Surface Book 2 and it is a beast of a laptop, but it is heavy and a bit bulky. For travel I prefer the regular Surface, or the Surface Laptop. Both are quick light and slim. I am lucky to have all of them as I test out computer equipment for my work. I prefer the Surface laptop as it has a very workable keyboard. The Surface flippy keyboard is nice for its size but is not great for any extensive typing.

After many unsucessful attempts to mask and change a sky I thought I would have a look at the new Luminar software, especially the skyswap.

Totally blown away with how it masks and how fast it can change the image.
On our family holiday last year we stopped in Hong Kong and went to the big Buddha statue at Tian Tan. Skies were totally blown out and not having filters etc the shots were pretty crappy.

Here is a before and after shot using Luminar 4 sky swap. This is just one of the installed ones that come with the sotfware, but you can shoot your own and use them instead. Not a particularly good shot, but shows improvement with the new sky. Vey easy to move the horizon and colour the image to suit. Worth a look at the demo for sure

Occasionally, I like using the Anthropics LandscapePro plugin to replace sky. It comes with many types of sky backgrounds and like Luminar appears to be, is 'smart' enough to change the tone/contrast of the rest of the image to match the light from the selected sky. You can also use your own sky image as the replacement. It can also change the reflections in water to match the sky although I struggle with that aspect of it. If anyone might be interested, I would recommend the 'Studio' version so that it works as a plugin with Photoshop and RAW images can be edited with it. Otherwise, it works on jpgs only.

I don't know how this compares with Luminar 4 pricewise. The maker of this plugin also makes the PortraitPro plugin.

After looking at the post above from @gaabnz I downloaded the trial version of Luminar 4 and I am also blown away by how easy sky replacement is. The portrait enhancer is also easy to use and for guys like me (not a professional) it is worth it. Below is a photo I posted a few weeks ago with a blown out sky followed by a version with a new sky. The hardest part in all of this is deciding which sky to use.

Since others have posted about L4, I will share my thoughts in hope it helps others.

I had Luminar 4 for quite some time, as I was a beta tester. My sample experiment with Luminar 4 sky replacement just for fun to see it's capabilities. Although it works quite well, you will come across some situations were it doesn't do the job as you like. There is an array of loaded skys to use in L4 or, you can use your own out in your files.
They have changed the format of the tools layout from previous versions , now you have to hunt for the tools you wish to use, as they are now in groups, rather than listed individually and much easier to find. Portrait edits work quite well as a good starting point for any serious portrait retouching work. If you are not a portrait shooter, but occasionally shoot some family portraits you will be quite pleased with the results.

BTW it works very similar to Anthropics LandscapePro for sky replacement & portrait..

Upgraded the laptop.

Now running a Dell 15 - 7000 - 2 in 1 - Picked it up for $800 bucks I can say wow its nice to make adjustments and have them work on the fly. I am enjoying the pen and tablet mode. Bit worried about the screen as now I see way more flaws in my pics. Used my Spyder5 to calibrate but dont have any new photos to work on -?
