How lucky was I to see 2 Black redstarts on the same roof at Sharpness in Gloucestershire. They were squabbling over territory and chasing each other off. One was grey in colour and the other being rusty brown. I believe they are both females but cannot be certain. Eventually the Brown one took flight into the distance. I walked in the general direction she went in and located her about 500yds away where she was on an old concrete water tower. Too high up to photograph. I just got lucky seeing her when I first arrived.

I like Redstarts & Black Redstarts they share the same characteristics as Robins. They are curious and friendly birds and will often come down to check you out. I recall last year one at Brean Beach. I would be sitting down watching him whilst eating my Pork Pie and he would get closer and closer eventually 3-4 metres away. Far too close when you only have a 600mm Prime with you.

Should be hoping for less sun not more :) ..I find nice light overcast days( Gods light box) are the best for birds otherwise Im spending half my post time cleaning up horrible shadows.
