Excellent shots, Paul. This hen mallard is much lighter in color, and has more white on her than ours here in the states. They can sure vary in different parts of the world.

Mike, This hen mallard has been on the lake for a few months now. It is believed that she is a hybrid and your right to say she is much paler and is unusual in comparison to the other females.

Shooz, nice! Kingbird? I've only seen one here, one time :(

Thanks !
Pretty common here, I see them when I’m out fishing on the Bay. Next time you’re up this way, we’ll find you some ! :-)

It was so cold this morning the lake had frozen over, the 2 resident kingfishers had moved from the lake to the river. However, there was a mist above the river. I almost gave up and thought I'd have a cup of tea and a hot sausage roll in the cabin before I go home. Yes it was the right decision, 40 minutes later when walking back to the car. The mist had dispersed in a few areas there was a cracking White-throated Dipper on the bank doing what Dippers do best "Dipping". I was in my Element and managed to bag a few decent shots.
I shall pop along tomorrow, and see if he's still there hopefully the light will be better.

What a great shot, Paul. Such nice clarity and sharpness.

Fantastic portrait shot, Paul. Judging from the white color of the gulls head, it seems like Black Headed Gull is not the appropriate name for this bird. ;-)a

Thanks Mike this is a first Winter Plumage bird, they eventually get their full black head. I pulled this from my Gallery. The Male on the left was trying to break up the happy couple and lots of squabbling took place.
