Love that arc of water and the way it repeats the horizon and landscape lines - nice concept.

What are they spraying? Is it water? Where is the source of the water or whatever it is? What is the purpose of the spraying?

Thanks Stuart for your comment. It was fascinating watching the water arc out and I took several photos.
I had two choices, spray drifts or those arcing lines of water.
Just read your blog on bridge demolition. Fascinating. Much of my life involved bridge construction

Charles this is water irrigating the grass paddock to make grass grow when it's dry, as is now. It's a dairy farm (milk production)
It's what's called a travelling irrigator
https://www.irrigationbox.com.au …eel-travelling-irrigators (external link)

A huge hose on a huge reel on wheels with a spray nozzle on the reel platform
Farmer drags reel into position with tractor at end of run (area to be irrigated) then drives tractor to far end, unwinding the hose and parks the tractor where it acts as an anchor. There's a wire cable attached to both.
The hose is then attached to underground water mains and the water powers the hose reel which then winds itself in as the wire cable is also wound in.
In this case the underground water mains come from a pump at a dam on the farm.
Here's a previous post of 2 tractors, near one already hooked up to the irrigator (out of photo). That was a dummy run for some reason and the irrigation hose wasn't run out. But it gives the idea

Richard,

Thank you for this very detailed report back to me. There is a LOT of farm land around me, but I had never seen THAT type of irrigation done around here.

Richard,

I just watched the 4 videos on the irrigating machines, they were very interesting and educational! Thank you!
