The camera was just delivered. I haven't gotten my spare batteries yet and the one that came with the camera is charging.

I'll try it out with the two kit lenses and the macro and take it from there.

Thanks for all of the advice.

I use the EF 28 mm f/2.8 IS USM now and then on a 7D. It's pretty much a "normal" lens on that camera. Has the advantage (over EF-S) that it works on the 1DX cameras too.

Seems to be very sharp and a very good choice as a normal prime for APS-C. The focal length at 28mm is just about exactly right following the traditional guideline that it should be equal to the diagonal of the sensor size. It is an expensive lens, though.

If you want something starkly different, prime-like, on an APS-C for your upcoming 80D that is significantly different than your 18-55 STM (which is quite a sharp lens too), Canon doesn't really have much for you other than a 35 F2 or 28 F1.8.

This is where Sigma comes in with 30mm F1.4 ART at $350.

Very best,

I've seen some very good reviews of it on YouTube.

I got mine for "free", when I bought a new 1DX camera.

I too just recently bought the Sigma 30/1.4. Problem is that, out of the box, it front-focuses and isn't very sharp. I probably should have sent it back for replacement, but instead ordered the Sigma Dock. It arrive today and I immediately started trying to correct the autofocus. It took more than an hour, but I finally got it done.

It did seem a bit sharper, but I still want to test it in the real world. The jury is still out on the lens.
