I ditched Lr in July, got into ON1 PR 2019, tried upgrading to 2020 but went back to 2019. Then I was shocked to see how ON1 2019 couldn't handle my high ISO photos! Literally noise beyond belief. ON1 suggested I try 2020 and, if it worked, they would give me a discount to upgrade. I kindly declined because (IHMO) the high ISO issue should be a version fix, not to buy an upgrade.

That bit of disappointment brought me to DxO PL3 (trial). I'm really liking it, I have about 20 days left. The caveat is, I'm going to get a Fujifilm X-T3 soon so there goes the X trans. I read Cap1 has a "free" version that's limited but at least it'll work with Fuji.

Capture One is an amazing editor and the free version is not that limited at all, there only a handful of differences between the free version and the full one. I tested out the free version for a month and found I could do all I needed apart from tethering but I did miss the finer colour controls and a few other deeper options. The free version is a good start anyway.

There are a couple of articles on my blog, links in my signature.

If you are definitely planning to go Fuji x-trans as you may be aware that DXO has no plan in place to support that sensor.

Yeah, I noticed that the other day. I'm really liking DxO, except 2 things that REALLY bug me: you have to pay to get preset filters and there's no way to do a simple vignette. Other than that (and lack of x-trans), DxO works for me.

@two hot shoes is saying the free version of Cap1 for Fuji does quite a bit. My plans are to sell my Tamron lens and Canon body and move to the X-T3. :)

What do you mean you have to pay to get presets? And with regards to vignetting, DXO has creative vignetting as one of the tools in the FilmPack 5 Elite plugin. I have PhotoLab 3 Elite, FilmPack 5 Elite, and Viewpoint 3. Filmpack and Viewpoint completely integrate into PhotoLab. Getting all three is expensive, but I've never regretted it. But if you are going to x-tran its all moot.

It’s their $79 Film Pack on top of the std/elite purchase. I haven’t played with too many apps but all have included the ability to add/edit/manipulate a simple vignette without having to spend $79. But you’re right, entertaining the X-T3 doesn’t make or break it for me.

Cap1 Fuji Express, it's free not a trial, fully working bit of software. No excuse for a least giving it a go :-)
Also you can DM me if you get stuck on anything and I'll point you on the right direction.

That is the FilmPack plug-in I mentioned, only that $79 price if for the cheaper less full featured Essential, rather than the Elite, version. And the "presets" are just film emulations which are only useful for those who want the look of a one of the specific film types included. But FilmPack Elite also includes a lot of other features and tools including fine contrast, various filters, the ability to add and manipulate grain, a B&W channel mixer, Creative Vignetting, the ability to add and manipulate blur, the ability to add frames. a tool to add textures, and a light leak tool. In additionally it includes 82 color and B&W film emulations. But as I said whether its worth the money or not is completely moot since you won't be able to use it.in PhotoLab with an xtrans sensor.

Agreed, C1 is light-years ahead of Lightroom, especially if you shoot X-trans. I did have problems adjusting to the interface at first, but finally got it figured out and even set up my workspace with dual monitors. I prefer the workflow it affords over that of Lightroom. ....

The Dual monitor functionality, and the easily saved workspaces combine to make C1 one of the best interfaces out there for my uses.

As a dual monitor user going back to Windows 95 (yes it could be done!) when our screens were tiny, I wont use a graphics app that won't let me put all the tool bars on one monitor, and the image on it's own on the other. Full Stop. That used to exclude about 80% of the raw converters out there.

When I shoot wildlife and nature, most of the shots are in landscape orientation,.

when i shoot people and performances, very often, more often than not, the entire series might be in portrait orientation.

My workstation includes two monitors, one in landscape, one is portrait.

with C1, at the click of a mouse, I can swap which monitor has the image vs. the toolsbars/tabs/and film thembnails. Love this flexibility.

They have a reduced cost version for Sony as well, just $129.00 now (used to be $99.00 for years, with reduced cost upgrades)

I don't want to ruffle any feathers but software something that meets your needs. I went with LR because of the cropping I do. C1 didn't do it for me and I tried it twice. I really wanted it to blow my socks off but it didn't. The folks at FM are no slouches. Here was a thread from an extreme eagle crop and this is what I also found when I tested it. I didn't subscribe to Adobe because I like them.

I also like LR's export process. If I send a file to DXO it always comes back to LR.

I use CO1 for my Sony A7RII with great results, better than DXO i.m.o.
But when it comes to Canon files (7DII and EOS-R), CO1 somehow looks dull and the colors off. DXO looks far better (almost identical colorwise to DPP) and Photoshop inbetween.
