Thank you. I'm safe but the loss of animal life from these fires is unfathomable. There's been some human tragedy too. I think the saddest part of these fires is how many of them were deliberately lit. And, as I was taking these images, I spotted (and photographed) tourists watching the fires in high wind that were smoking cigarettes and watching the place burn... during a total fire ban.

The smoke certainly adds another dimension to photography at this time. Aside from the crazy sunsets, we're seeing some dark beauty in the eerie landscapes. It looks a little bit like dense mist and fog and it layers the landscapes in an interesting way.

The two images here were shot from the same location. To my West was a guy with his DSLR set up on a tripod at one of the modular lookout stations. I took that shot as the sun was setting. And to my East was a couple with a Canon DSLR setting up their gear for the sunset next to the aptly named 'Boar's Head Rock' - near the town of Katoomba. I live in the city so I rarely get to photograph much in the way of landscapes.
