The Abbey was partly destroyed, about 1/3rd, in the English Reformation where Henry VIII decided to knock all of the catholic churches and bits down in the 16th C. Then the destruction was compounded when it was decided that a nice big tower was needed and along with a bit of help from above, a lightning strike, more of it collapsed. There is still a big bit left and it is quite beautiful and very impressive. It is still very much in use today from everything from church services to skate boarding!

My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!

Found another interesting tree photo, while this looks like a forest, it is actually a single tree, a Banyan Tree on the Edison Winter Estate in Ft. Meyers, Florida. According to information from the estate, the tree was a present from Harvey Firestone who brought the 2" diameter 4 foot high sapling from India and gave it to Thomas Edison who actually planted it himself in 1925. Now the entire tree covers an area almost 400 feet in diameter. You can see Edison's statue on the left. Kind of interesting to think of all the hurricanes it has survived in almost almost 100 years.

Trees are incredible things and that banyan is impressive and will probaly be here for several centuries more.

That is why the yew tree is called the tree of life, because it spreads and regenerates in a similar way. There is one up in Scotland, in Fortingall, said to be between 2000 and 3000 years old.
