LeConte from the Carlos Campbell Overlook with burn scars still visible on the slopes. At 6.593 feet, Mt. Le Conte is the third highest peak in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and the highest peak that is completely contained in the state of Tennessee. In late November of 2016, a forest fire occurred at Chimney Tops which eventually burned over 15,000 acres including portions of the nearby city of Gatlinburg and parts of Mt. Le Conte. The fire ultimately claimed 14 lives and is one of the worst natural disasters in Tennessee history. multiple shot pano - 16,500 pixels wide ![]() it looks so different after the fire...it will be a long time before it has healed.
