Absolutely outstanding, Shalu!! It's so sharp and the background is terrific.

Edit, 1-3: I've been informed that this is actually a sharp-shinned hawk, not a Cooper's.

Cooper's hawk in my backyard. Rainy day.

In Auckland, at a place on the West Coast called Muriwai is a gannet colony, arguably the closest and most convenient colony for visiting in the world. The colony exists on a headland, a few hundred metres from a car park and with an excellent cafe not much further - always an important consideration for the keen bird photographer...

The gannets come in from August and breed for the next couple of months. An egg takes about 44 days to mature, and there is only one. These are among the largest sea birds on the planet, with wingspans of up to 2m across. They nest until early February and the nestlings take their first flight - or over 2,000km to Australia, where they live for some years before returning to breed.

These are both very nice flight shots, Tronhard. I especially like the first image.

Sounds like a lot of New Zealanders! :)

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Mooned by a Golden Eagle.

I don't think there is a category for this one: I had not realized Eagles wore pantaloons! :)
