All-inclusive is a blessing and a curse. I was so "warm", I don't even remember taking that pic.

This is my partner Hilary, taken a few years ago for one of her university publications. She is an amazing person, fighting terminal cancer, yet almost single-handledly building a new degree for the University of Auckland. She cycles, paddle-boards, does Pilates and Yoga to keep fit and healthy and grows her own organic vegetables. She is a fighter..

The second photo is of her having cycles 38km to get the first dose of Ibrance, a drug that cost us $6,000 per month, but is holding the line to slow the progression of her cancer.

I dispense Ibrance on a daily basis. Free of charge in Ireland for the majority of women. For those that have to pay, it’s only €124/month. It is a drug that works. Kudos to your wife. Feel free to pm me if you have any queries about the drug or therapy

Tronhard...sounds like you need to make a friend in Ireland. Best of luck to her.

Ironically enough I am Irish! But I left that beautiful island when I was a child, although I retain both Irish and UK passports.

Hilary was one of many women who presented to the NZ Government Health Committee that was holding an inquiry into drug treatment for women with metastatic cancer. For years successive parties in government have starved Pharmac, the NZ Government drug buying agency of funds for cancer treatment. On average 50 women per month die of cancer, which puts us at the bottom of the OECD stats. She and others successfully lobbied for funding, which will kick in during the coming March. For Hilary this will not be a benefit to her as she was able to take advantage of an offer made earlier in the year to patients by the makers of the Ibrance. They pay $6,000 for 11 months and thereafter they pay no more for the drug as long as it is effective. We started a Givealittle page and were amazed and humbled by the response from her colleagues and students and we were able to take advantage of the offer. It has made a huge difference to her and she is able to continue to work (which is her life) at a reduced level. The drug is, of course, not the only cost: she takes handfulls of pills morning and evening and she needs weekly physio, Pilates and massage sessions to keep back the stiffness from lymphoma.

Life is not as either of us expected or hoped, but we make the best of what we have. She has work and I look after the home front and have my photography.
