The gannets come in from August and breed for the next couple of months. An egg takes about 44 days to mature, and there is only one. These are among the largest sea birds on the planet, with wingspans of up to 2m across. They nest until early February and the nestlings take their first flight - or over 2,000km to Australia, where they live for some years before returning to breed.
