Work-up's:
I don't like my angle on the pasta. The affogato I wasn't fast enough after the hot espresso was poured. I don't know how to do these in a static shot.

Thank you, madjack. Chicken doesn't sound bad at all. The recipe for sauce Bearnaise is insanely easy unlike the traditional ones that are really hard. And the eye filet is also super easy. If you need the recipes, I'd more than happy to share. Enjoy your chicken :)
BTW, I fry some chicken breasts and pour the sauce Bearnaise over, because there's always a lot of leftover sauce and it's delicious.

A friend of mine reopened his restaurant just before Christmas and is not allowed to reuse the photos that were made for his menu. So today I tested what I learned last year and took some photos of his freshly cooked pide for social media. Which one do you prefer?

Personally, I've never been a fan of shallow DOF on food... actually on most things - but anyway...
Between the two choices, I prefer #2... because I also prefer simpler and uncomplicated foods.
Yes, #2 looks delicious to my eyes - and stomach. :-)

The menu pictures I've seen don't have shallow DOF. But it's probably the restaurants we visit. :p

I wonder if there's been any studies on this. I have read that pictured items sell better than
non pictured. So, between shallow vs wide DOF, which items sell best?
Maybe too many variables to be determined. IDK.

It's my life and I'll get pissed if I want to.

Thank you for the feedback. His menu also uses deep DOF, I guess it is just a more honest representation to the customers. But since my photos will not go on the menu, I was not too concerned about that. Maybe next weekend, I can try some with a deeper DOF as well :)

Nice shot! My suggestion would be to composite/stack them. Pick the garnish config you prefer then stack the main so that the DOF appears deeper. For a social media phone view the details won't be seen so that's to bad. This would be quite nice on a menu.

Oh, good idea! I really need to get my hands on Photoshop, been hesitant for ages :D
Maybe for his next menu, I'm sure as the restaurant gets going he will change the menu at some point.
