Here are two more from the recent trip to southern California, taken Wednesday December 18, 2019. The first is on initial approach to LAX, about 20 minutes out, so it's probably southern California. The second is on final to LAX. Enjoy!

Oh my word! I never saw an airport landing strip with so many curves on it going some to the right others to the left!!

Remind me to NEVER travel to LAX!! I don't see how any pilot could keep the plane on any of those landing strips!!

That is interesting. I doubt any "current" airport could be changed or modified to be able to use a circular runway but I could be wrong.

What is an orifie? Or is that a typo?

Still LOVE that!
It's pretty old now.
The story behind it is very interesting as well ---

That has reminded me of an incident that actually happened with a 707 that was 'supposed' to be going into Heathrow. R.A.F. Northolt is quite close by and the main runway was the same heading as Heathrow. There was a gasomiter close to the SW appraoch of both runways. The Heathrow one had a BIG 'H' painted on it and the Northolt one had a BIG 'N' painted on it. A 707, no isea as the the airline, was coming into Heathrow and was actually lined up on the Northolt approach mistaking the 'N' for the 'H' and touched down with the help of the Heathrow ATC who thought he was their jobbie!

The 707 JUST managed to stop before the A40 raod that runs along the far end and everyone realised their mastike, big time. The A40 was a very main raod even then.

The outcome was that the 707 was stripped of all the seats, a tiny fuel loadw as all it had for the hop, the street lights were taken down across the far end of the runway and only the driver (pilot to some) and the engineer were on board for the take off. The traffic on the A40 was stopped and they just hoped that the thing would get off the deck. It did, but only just cleared the far fence and dropped into Heathrow

Night is creeping in on the horizon as we overfly burning gas stacks of the oil fields in Iraq.

I remember flying into Kuwait in a Bristol Beverly. My father was stationed in Bahrain and I was visiting on leave. I was stationed at R.A.F. Lyneham at the time and spent some of my leave there. The 'Bev' was going to Kuwait to pick up a coffin of a serviceman and he got me a freebe on it. I was sat in the lower nose when we landed and oh for a camera. In the early 60s cameras were rare!

It looks a lot nicer in your shot that the one I had Dom.
