Post your 2019 Landscapes

I'm not sure what 'soft pedal' HDR is but if you don't get the image correct during exposure (like rocks IN the water) you're not going to find them in post.

You can't really replace the effect of a polarizer in post. On the other hand, depending on what you want to show in the image you may not want to use one. Polarizers also reduce reflections on the surface of water so you have to make some choices and compromises. More often than not on a shot like the one posted I wouldn't use one at all. If there is underwater structure I want to be able to see in the image then you might need one with the full or partial effect.

You could do a shot with and a shot without and then blend them. At least with something like that shot.

But yeah, Polarizer and ND's aren't really capable of being added in post - with ND the subject movement, not exposure difference.

Absolutely you could do that, that's one of the things I would consider a compromise of sorts...since it is a PITA lol. Yes there are definitely situations where that could be the best option however.

I agree with John, this is not a suitable subject for a polarising filter.

I'll agree to disagree. RAW won't bring back what's not there and a polarizer would have brought down the glare and retained the rocks.
Oh well, it's still a nice image and the second version does sing.

All landscape photographers should have a circular polarizer in their bag. That's my opinion obviously, but a very popular one.

I use a polarizer mostly around water...to control glare and reflections but also it acts a little like a weak ND filter...the one I have gives me about 1.5 stops of ND filter. This image was shot using the CPL but not rotated to full effect, so that I could keep some of the color reflection on the water pool above the rocks...but not too much glare on the wet rocks...Live View and an EVF make this so much easier.
