So are the first in each post!

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

"Welcome to my laboratory" Woo-ha-ha-ha!

That's one amazing setup Robert and it's certainly helping you and Poof get some very amazing results.

I do have one question. I don't see a bowl of some sort for the drops to land in so I'm assuming the drop from above is colliding with a drop 'shot up' from below in mid-air?

Thanks Gene and you're correct....no bowl. There is a solenoid/nozzle down low that propels a drop up toward a drop falling down. Took a while to figure a way to line up one with the other.
This helps a lot. A combo of a macro rail allowing subtle alignment changes in X and Y axis plus a leveling something or other for tripods for the other axis. Bought both off e-bay and cobbled them.

Nice setup, I suspect you have more than one charger for all the batteries you go through in those flashes!!! I struggle to keep my 4 flashes supplied with fresh batteries :)

Sadly no. I have to replace batteries. If I'd gone the rechargable route with same size Godox the flashes alone would have been over $800. Might be worth it in the long long run but not now. We can however shoot all night long two nights in a row with one 'filling' of batteries....that's approx 800-1000 shots (of which I might get 20 keepers). Lots of flashes eh 8 and one you can't see for 9) but each one at 1/128 power (for the 1/25,000 second speed needed [though sometimes I go 1/64 power] to freeze the action. At such low power little battery drain, thus the large number of shots possible..

Thanks Robert and agree, an amazing array of equipment.

Gene's comment echo's my thoughts. When I first saw your droplet post that's what I envisaged but the technique was beyond me. :-)
Truly astounding work.

Richard as usual you are too kind. It is a lot of fun and I admit that when we first started assembling the array we were daunted. Baby steps is the key plus having the room for such a large table and not having to disassemble at each session.
Another key, and a big one, is note taking. We've been at this for a few years now and beside the conglomeration of assemblage you see, the recipes for the drop solutions are just as complicated....the guns (xanthum as an example), the filtering, the mixing, all vary based on intended outcomes...then the ratios of the gum mixtures to the water, the milk, the acrylic paints used. The number of variables makes me scratch my head sometimes....thus the note taking on what worked and what didn't, what clogged the nozzles and what didn't, and so on.
As Pippin knows we reserve this 'sport' for this time of year when the weather just stinks outside....by the time we get back around to it each year we are looking for our notes to begin the learning process all over again ha!

Thanks Robert
An exercise in patience, creativity, frustration and elations and much more I imagine.
The results of all that are very worth while.

COOL! I like the micro adjustments, including the leveling bubble. Thanks for sharing your set up. :-)

Decided to try my hand at some oil and water images. I took a more "grungy" approach.

Certainly proof that less is more. I tend to add too much oil.
