The wife has a small accumulation that sit around so she asked me to take some pics so that she could list them up FS. Looking at them I could have stuffed them more. Any tips-suggestions on how to pose them, etc...

I used the 12x36" strip box placed camera left at about 10 o'clock angled about 40 degrees. Bounce card on right side of purse.

I think these are more than good enough for the purpose. They make clear that the purses are in like-new shape. For an ad in a glossy magazine, you'd have to do a little more.

The second one is maybe too contrasty. Light it more diffusely or fix in post?

Thanks. The bottom one with the rayskin look was pretty contrasty due to the black-gray and white spots. I'll play with it in post to soften it.

Agreed. MORE than good enough for the purpose intended.

Add a faint b/g light to bring up the tonal value of the b/g, to separate the purse handles and a few other 'black' parts of the bag from the b/g

You can always stuff the bag to fill it out and I'd put it in a more lifestyle setting or on all white. A couple detail shots would compliment the listing also.

Any way to disclose to the buyers internal compartments via a separate shot of the internals of the bag? It matters to buyers.

Yes, it does, very much. The inside would be hard to light. At least describe the number of pockets, giving some dimensions and closures.

Try lighting from above and see if that gives you a desired result.

Just took the picture -

Since you're new here, there's something you may not have noticed yet about the various threads: some threads invite all and sundry to post their pictures of a given subject, and some don't. This thread is the second kind. It isn't a general call for photos of purses. ra40 started it to ask for feedback on a project of his, photographing purses for sale. His first post tells what he's doing. The purses in your photo are very "relaxed," not posed to show buyers what they'd be getting, so it doesn't really fit the topic.

The white seamless got damaged in storage so that eliminated that. Had the black handy so used that. It worked as a test and helped me realize that I am lacking larger sized backgrounds to use. Stuffed the purse more. Did some 3/4 angled shots to show the shape but those don't seem to work well. The depth of my room isn't as deep as I'd like so the background is about 3' back, getting fade and softness I have in my mind wasn't happening. Will have to experiment more.

A living model or mannequin where it is shoulder slug will be a nicer pic to show better scale. Realizing that this isn't necessary for a FS ad but gives me practice for a different photo subject. The inside shots are difficult. Those will take more practice.

Same strip box with egg crate installed and the 600EX on the background.

LOL, she's brought me along on several trips. In all fairness I take her to the camera store and she's even a good sport at the tool and home supply places. ;) At first I was thinking $50-$300 but then I saw some purses at Chanel, Prada and Hermes... Those are big $$$ So the couple hundred at that scale I was more acceptable. My camera bags don't come close so there is a price disparity in our carry bags. :p
