ive got a couple of those green wooden ammo boxes in my basement...

they held 7.62 (x63)mm cartridges (.30-06 here in the States) for their M-1 Garand rifles they nomenclatured M50...

good shooting ammo too! the blacked out lettering is in yellow...

hes casting lead bullets. from the looks of them (size wise) id say theyre .54 cal minie balls (conical with an open base)...

when loaded in a muzzle loader (black powder propellant) they ram down the barrel fairly easily, but when fired the expanding gases swell the thin metal at the base causing it to engage the rifling for a much more stabilized projectile...

invented by a Frenchman...
