I have never seen a wood duck that high in a tree before.
.

.
Here where I live, in the spring and summer they perch up in the trees regularly. . Sometimes they even perch on the overhead wires, and once I saw a pair atop a utility pole!

They pretty much perch just about anywhere, it seems. . No other species of duck does that in my area.

............... ............... ............... ............... ............... ............... ...............

By the way, there's been something I have been wondering about this thread for quite some time, and I figure now might be a good time to ask:

I see lots and lots of bird photos posted here that aren't really portraits, even though the title of the thread is:

"Post your Bird Portraits"

So I am wondering, is it really okay to post bird photos that are behavioral, and not portraiture? . I want to make sure that if I post to this thread, I am strictly adhering to the OP's parameters. . I would hate to start a thread with strict parameters, and then have people post things that do not fit what I asked for. . The OP probably feels the same way, and I do not want to post anything that falls outside of his/her vision for the thread.

.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

A couple shots of a little green heron. One of my favorite birds to see, but I rarely get too close to them, or if I do they are in some pretty heavy brush. I ran into this one sitting in a fairly open area just grabbing the occasional minnow that swam by

I spotted this little Common Sandpiper far away at the edge of the reservoir and he was walking along the edge towards me. I was focused on him and waiting for him to get closer to me. Then from no where a black headed gull, dived onto him. He turned around and was off like a shot back to where I first spotted him. Ten minutes later again he started to walk towards me, he got exactly to the same location and that gull annoyingly harassed him. Yes he was off back to the start. third time lucky I thought. I kept him in sight knowing he would get to me eventually. I kept looking up from the corner of my eye for the gull, he was not around. I was saying to my self "come-on you beauty hurry up before that bloody gull comes back". The gull then landed in front of me about 8 metres away and was waiting for him. The Sandpiper still milling around and coming forward now about 25 metres away. I Found my-self shouting out "Shoo, go on hop it, Shoo, leave him alone" waving my monopod around with gear attached the gull took flight. The Sandpiper soon walked right passed me and gave me a look. it was a look of thanks mate. I got my shots. He carried on with his route to the other side of the reservoir.....Sometimes you just got to do these things. I don't like bullies.
