Very nice image! What do you use to align the images?

thanks! i just used deepskystacker for alignment and stacking, then messed around in photoshop to bring out the details.

wow, it's been a while. haven't checked this thread since 2016.

had some kinda clear skies so i tried taking some pics of m42 with the new camera.

anyway, this was about 900 1s exposures at ISO 25600 @ 300mm f/5.6 with the sony a9 (and canon 70-300 is usm) on a tripod.

eventually i'm gonna bust out that eq mount and take pics with that eventually, but the last few times have been frustrating and time consuming. hopefully i'll have clear enough skies to properly setup the mount, let alone image with it.

Wow! What an image!!! You must be blessed with really dark skies where you live.

Do I understand you correctly, you took 900 photos and stacked them together to get this image?

Yup, took about 900 photos and stacked them together. Definitely gonna need to try taking longer exposures on a tracking mount, 900 is way too many photos for only about 15 min of total exposure :P

Unfortunately, I don't think I have very dark skies. Thought they were, but I think it falls under the bortle class 6 or 7 judging by how easily I can see the clouds visually (and how white they are).

Really nice! I especially love the colour of the light on the moon against the blue (not black) background.

So good, especially for one frame and much better than my attempt.

Thank you kindly, it hadn't quite turned into night so there was still a small amount of light.

Just a combination of a quite good lens, stable VC in the lens and very good noise control in Topaz Denoise AL.

had some clear skies and some time to figure out how to polar align my avx mount. still need to work on it, but it was ok for 1 min exposures.

IMAGE LINK: https://live.staticflickr.com …42110367_679ff5aab0_o.jpg (external link)

combined iso 3200 1 min exposures and iso 1600 30s exposures, total ~40 min exposure. about 20 darks for each iso, and 30 for each bias, no flats

camera: sony a9
lens: canon ef 70-300 is usm @ 300mm f/5.6
mount: celestron avx

will be keeping the lights and master dark/bias frames for later (takes up so much less space compared to the 900 1s lights i did last time :p), maybe the weather will be kind and let me take more pics
