Sadly no. This was part of the North Australia railway, which ran from Darwin to Pine Creek to service the gold rush, was extended to the Katherine River in 1917, and then across the river and on to Birdum c1929 (Birdum and few other towns at which it stopped no longer exist). It was intended to join it with the Ghan line (from Adelaide) at Alice Springs (another 1000 km south) but never did, and it was closed in 1976 with much of the infrastructure being sold off. The Darwin station (external link) is long gone. In 2004 the new Ghan line, now operated by Genesee & Wyoming, joined Alice Springs (and therefore Adelaide) with Darwin by a new, no expansion joints rail line. It's the only railway line in NT.

A great example of political procrastination: the idea of building a north-south transcontinental railway was first discussed in South Australia's parliament in 1858. It was 146 years before they completed it.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Great Malvern station, UK

“The best ironwork detailing, from an architectural standpoint, anywhere on a station is at Great Malvern.”

"Atop the cast iron columns supporting the platform canopies are capitals decorated with an astonishing variety of wrought iron leaves and flowers, springing up from coronets which circle the columns. Highly decorative cast iron spandrels connect the canopy girders to the columns. You don’t need hanging baskets at Great Malvern station; it has a permanent display of local fauna on its columns. The whole display is painted too, in a riot of colour unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere on a British railway station."

Beautiful examples of the cast iron era.
Great to see. Keep it coming :-)

Appreciated now but there was an era few decades back when it fell out of fashion and was sent to the tip.
Many old houses here were adorned by it.
