Headed there march 13. thanks for the inspiration. convinced me to drag the 100-400 along. have a sunset tour reserved as well, and staying in one of the cabins.

Yeah you'll LOVE IT!!! It's very peaceful with a view. The breakfast at the hotel is totally worth it, and you'll thank yourself for avoiding the drive from the town as you'll have more time to soak in the experience being right there. You may hear noise from the parking area around sunrise, as the natives were celebrating the sunrise with music, and they have a guy on a PA system trying to herd in people to join the cattle carts for a jeep tour (I was told by a few guests that those are rushed and not really photography-centric, but not bad if you just want to get into the valley for snap shots while not being forced to take your own vehicle).

Enjoy and I'm sure you'll bring back some magical photos n memories!!!

The 100-400 along will be worth it as you'll be able to get some compression shots of the light on some of the rocks (they have kind of a like a column like look in places).

My wife uses two 80Ds. She has the EF-S 15-85 on one, and the EF 70-300 II on the other (the 100-400 II was too big and heavy for her). She's very happy with her setup. She carries both when she shoots using a double BlackRapid strap:

Yes, that was my other thought but it's always tempting to go for something newer, with a better spec. and something different, even if only slightly so.

Of course I can manage with just the 80D but it's nice and convenient to have another body with a completely different lens and settings on it as evidenced by the many folks on here. I do change between my wider angle lenses when out and about with the 650D but never take the 100-400 off the 80D.
