Nice work Harold! Looks like you are working up to a great workflow. I would suggest using a wired release as you are indeed correct you are very most likely getting some movement from mirror slap. When I used a similar setup I found it best to fire off manually one by one spacing about a second apart for getting best images - your setup might be more or less stable - so some experiments! I typically got between 80-200 frames in depending on mangification used. (lenses and teleconverters in my case!) Shutter speed should be higher imo - I found 1/50s about right for simiar magnification - some would say higher yet, but I found 1/50 fine. I look forward to seeing more work!

Mike

I appreciate the advice. I do use a shutter cable. Unfortunately, I don't have a tracking mount for my refractor so I just use high speed drive mode and keep firing off shots while the moon is in frame. I'll have to see if I can adapt my scope to my iOptron Skyguider Pro. Not sure I want to buy rings just for that purpose, so I may try and use heavy duty zip ties attached to my dovetail. I also agree about the shutter speed. I'm going to aim for 1/50s minimum for sure.

I realize you don't have a tracking mount! lol. But perhaps I am thinking you have a larger frame than you do... I mean just setting the framing so that the moon is on the furthest of one side of the frame, and clicking as many photos as you can as the moon moves across the field of view... that is, as many as you can giving the camera/scope a second or so each time to settle from the shutter shock. For example, this was the field of view I had for this shot....

Field of view.... (actual photo - first of series I shot as described, on a tripod with no tracker and my dslr.... I rotated the frame so that the moon moved the long way across my DSLR camera sensor) Also, for the record, the exif info that is shown above the pic is not right for focal length. It was actually 1260mm - my camera picked up the two teleconverters in the exif, but considered the 3X converter as a 2X. It was 300mm+1.4X+3X = 1260mm.

And my finished stack from that stream...

Very nice! Although your second image is driving me crazy... I have a heckuva time not seeing the inverted crater illusion. Even why I coaxed my brain into seeing it properly, it popped back to inverted, almost right away. :)

It's been a while since I shot the moon but it was lovely and clear tonight and I have a super-zoom lens to play with :)

Single shot, with the Tamron 150-600 at 600mm. F11, ISO 100, 1/160s, handheld with IS turned on. Not bad.

At 600mm hand held, you did quite well. :-)

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.
