I like your photos Ray, but I would argue that these huge carriers are ships

This is most certainly a boat. The guy tied up to the mooring and I watched with interest as there was no dinghy to get ashore. Yup, he went for a swim

Annie, Thanks for the compliment. Now Annie! You have now tossed your caber into a right old hornets nest. I think there is a lack of clear definition on this one.
Maybe there are a few threads running that could be fused together, or a new one started specifically for Freighters and tankers. Problem is when looking for a thread there are so many of them you often cannot find a suitable one and sometimes stumble across an interesting new one.

That made me smile.

A boat is a ship is a boat to my mind and I got told by my mate, retired Admiral once that his 'boats' were SHIPS!
If you've never encountered an admiral then you probably don't know how that would come across
Interesting points Richard. Would your ancestors have arrived in OZ by Ship or Boat?
Ray, you need to lift your game by the sounds of it

Richard, ve do not play games
vot is your name?

yes, generally i would say that a Ship has Boats on board but, the freighters that ply the Great Lakes (the ones that are captive to the lakes, i.e. Salties not included) are MOST ASSUREDLY referred to as boats...
i know were not talking about GL Freighters but if someone wants to call them boats, im not going to argue the point...
Obviously you are correct Dave, but I suppose you could have a big boat designed to carry small ships. Let’s get our drawing boards out, or our CAD packages
