The EXIF info does show the equivalent field of view. It is listed as @xxx mm, where xxx is either 700 or 1000 depending on whether a 1.4X or 2X TC was used.

Well yeah, I saw that after I posted! :p

Nah, I think those are with the 1D Mark iii.

Unless Jake hopped on a plane to Asia or Africa in the last 24 hours to get shots of bee eaters!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Jake the 2X look fantastic

I talked to a few guys here in Idaho that have told me that they are getting sharp results with their version 1 500 F/4's and the newer version 3 TC's.....they updated the TC's and kept their version 1's

These are all 1D MkII or MkIII,. no "X"

And at the time they would have been with the older MkII Teleconverters.

I saw no difference with the MkIII 1.4X T-Con on this lens, 2X was slightly better, but the MkIII won't let you stack.

The real advantages of the MkIII T-Cons can only be realized on the VII glass with a fully modern Bodies AF.

Jake, Version III teleconverters cannot stack by themselves but they do stack with the use of the EF 12 extension tube in-between.

so you put the 12 extension BT the two TC's....genius

Robneys 400 F/2.8 is killing it with this combo but he says it slows the AF

Jake thank you for this information with the TC's

Im wondering If the 500 V1 will be hindered with a version2 or with Version 3 TC's. jake sees no significant improvement with version 3 TC's

Do you guys see significant IQ loss with a 2X TC on a 500 F4 version 1

I have a 1.4 version 2 TC and I suspect its going to be on the 500 a lot

when I get it I guess I could experiment with a 12m extension tube. I would think that would slow the AF a lot

I'm aware, yes. Doesn't help in many cases, but does in some.
I used to "need" to use Tubes with the older 500mm, and more with the 400mm f/5.6, but so far, since getting the MkII 500mm with it's closer focusing I have not needed the tubes in my kit.

If you already have the MkII 1.4x, and get this lens, just try it out. You will want to shoot @ 700mm a LOT!
Particularly on FF. When I was shooting 1D 1.3x, I tended to shoot the lens bare about 75% of the time, or more, but on the 5D4 and 1DXII I seemed to always have the 1.4 on, offering about the same FOV as the bare lens on 1.3x APS-H.

Here are couple more from yesterday. I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of the size and weight of the 1D4, 500 and 1.4x combination. I was out and about for about 3 hours hand holding everything. I'm super impressed with the lens and really happy I finally bit the bullet.

I have used TC 2X V3 on my 500 f4 V1 With IDX2.
The above pictures are with TC 2X V3

I did not notice any loss on IQ, but AF speed is little slow compared to without TC or TC 1.4x v3.

I can't remember the last time I had the 500mm out... but the nice weather last weekend made me remember how nice it is to take her out on a date from time to time.

Just a field sparrow. Well I think it is. I suck at identifying sparrows.
