I have a carrion crow in my neighbourhood with crossed-bill syndrome... I watch how he feeds by laying his head on the ground and clawing at the food until he manages to scoop it in. All the lying on the ground has made him particularly scruffy, but he is surviving against the odds. It's probably how the crossbills evolved! Col These are small, but the ones out there are far away.
