That’s what I thought (that you either already owned or wanted to buy the 100-400 for motorsports), so you surprised me a little expressing interest in a 200-600.

I’ve got a great RRS monopod sitting in my closet (from a while back when I had a 500mm f/4L), which will be nice for whenever I get rolling with my own 200-600mm.

I really liked the 200-600 when I rented it for the Elk rut last year...it made me break out the old monopod for sure. But I like watching the birds and the critters in my yard and 400 just isn't enough.

The 200-600mm hurt me after 4 hours on the last trip south. I held/shot 4 hours with it.
Next day on a longer walk I carried the D500+500PF.

Here's another via a9+200600.

I've been playing around with Luminar 4 and trying to get the hang of it. I like it better than Lightroom but I feel like I am over processing the photos at this point.

More from the weekend...

Also, I tend to see mixed reviews on Sony's 70-200 2.8...does it not match up to the Canon EF equivalent?

I wanted to be much closer to the mountains. But from the actual sunrise time, minus hiking time, getting ready to hike time, driving time, loading the car with the weekends stuff, getting ready, waking up..... it would have meant setting something like a 3:45am alarm & I didn't fancy doing that on my actual birthday ;) The road between two reservoirs is right behind me here so it was literally stop the car & go!! So glad I made that night before decision to aim for this spot as the reward of the first time seeing snow on these mountain tops (at sunrise too) was awesome. To top it all off, it then started gently snowing for a while at the start of our hike up from the original parking spot :)

The form minimalism of this image is particularly appealing to me. Art!

You’re really impressing me with your sports captures with the 135GM and the a9...a great combo in your hands. :)

After a lot of thinking it over, as much as I’d love to upgrade, I think I’m going to stick with my Batis 135mm for the foreseeable future. It’s got great size/weight that really suits my usage. Regardless, I’ll be thoroughly enjoying all the 135GM shots that get posted here on POTN.

A wider view of that frozen waterfall I shared recently. Hopefully this gives you an idea how massive the surrounding rocks are compared to the water. I liked the gentle S curve formed by the rock formations leading down to the waterfall.

Do you recall the name of the creek?

I must admit I do miss the red rock in Colorado.

Cory, the maps says that is the North Elk Creek in Staunton State Park. The falls are called Elk Falls. Thank you. It's pretty cool geology out here for sure.

Rains in Death Valley are usually rare...but the last three months it has not been so rare. So I was hopeful that I might get some rain while we were there...and we did. Didn't get the epic light to go with it, but I made the best of it. And after reviewing the images...I kinda like the empty sky, it lets the foreground textures and reflections really be the main focus. I wandered around a good bit in the dark, shining my light low to try to find an area where the water was not over the salt ridges, so that I could get more definition in the polygons. I was way off from the groups of people at first...then they found me...
