Yellow Wattlebird ~ Anthochaera paradoxa
Endemic to Tasmania
Difficult to get a decent photo of these as they mostly fly about in the scrub

The Little Wattlebirds had been bathing and just about emptied the vessel

Great capture, Richard! A very sharp, crisp shot.

These Cattle Egret should be called Sheep Egret. There are currently 4 of them that have been hanging around these sheep for over a week now. Scruffy looking birds they are all but one. They have been wind and rain battered with the shocking weather lately. Luckily for them the sheep don't seem bothered at all with there constant poking around just inches away. I saw one take a fly from one of the sheeps eyes. That's all you need is a sharp beak stabbing you in the eyeball:rolleyes:

What an interesting shot, Paul! I think that both birds and sheep benefit from each other.'s presence...a symbiotic relationship perhaps.

Thank you very much, Mike! Yeah, I love the extra resolution/reach of A7RIV, getting more details on the bird. My A9 is now in semi-retirement, reserved for more difficult shooting conditions :-D

What a killer of a shot, Shalu!! This one would most definitely look great on the wall.

I'm surprised that the A7RIV is replacing the A9. I thought it was irreplaceable :-P. Does the A7RIV perform as well as the A9 for birds in flight?

That is surprising to me. . I also went to Utqiagvik (commonly called Barrow) Alaska, and not only saw oodles of Long-tailed Ducks, but they were the easiest of all the birds to photograph.

What time of year did you go? . I was there the 3rd week of June, and they were the most prevalent bird - along every road and in every puddle! . But they were, of course, in their breeding plumage, and they are one of only a few bird species that I think are more striking and beautiful in their non-breeding plumage than they are in their breeding plumage.

Here's a photo from my Barrow trip, when they had almost completely turned from non-breeding to breeding plumage, and then after that a photo from New Jersey last year, in their wintertime non-breeding plumage.

One of my biggest dreams and bucket-list things in bird photography is to someday be able to photograph Long-tailed Ducks in their non-breeding plumage as they rest and walk about on top of ice. . That would be one of the most spectacularly beautiful things I can imagine ever taking pictures of!

.

Terrific captures, Tom. It's interesting to me that their name was changed from old squaw to long-tailed duck.

I'm jealous of every owl image I see. This one especially so.
Eyes are amazing.

Thank you. I don't get to see owls that often, so I myself get envious of those who have access to their habitats. This one was very lucky. I was out photographing Northern Flickers and when I was about to leave, I happened to turn around to look behind me, a habit of mine when I'm out birding, and lo and behold, I caught a glimpse a well camouflaged owl couple up on a branch that I just walked under.

Chicks are out of the nest. Flying about... They spend most of the time around the nest region. Mommy comes and feeds them. They are learning to feed.
