You would use this object while at a desk. If you had a desktop organizer, this object would probably be *in* the organizer. But by itself, it does not help organize things.

You could drop it into an empty Coke can and it would nearly fit inside, but not quite completely inside.

A Coke can? :)

For the object in question, it performs one very basic and very common function. And you're likely to have multiple.

I'm not totally clear on the rules here, and how specific or accurate the answer needs to be. So for the basic guess, we'll have to go with that: the basic object.

For bonus points that aren't worth anything, there are two additional functions that were featured in the picture. But the basic function is good enough for the guess.

Yes!

Care to elaborate? What was that notch thing?

Half the answer should get at least half the picture...

I assume the pocket clip.
No idea what other functions it might have on it though.

The primary function for this object is: a pen. Chris: over to you!

So... recapping:

It is not camera/photography related. There is no clamp, hook or handle on it, but there is a clip that can support its own weight. It does not mix anything, but is a mix of three things. There are no electronics involved.

hqqns asked if the black part rotated in relation to the silver part. I said no, as the black and silver parts that were visible in the frame are fixed (not rotating). In the larger view, there is a different black part that does rotate.

This is not a kitchen device, and would likely be found on a desk or in a desk organizer. Common versions of this are found in an office supply store. This particular version is unique and might be harder to find.

Chris-R asked if it was sprung. There is no metal nor coiled spring inside. There is a plastic flange that has a detent when twisting the pen. The flange flexes to hold the pen in the open position. That might(?) be considered a spring in the strictest sense from a mechanical engineering perspective.

In the meantime, the opposite tip is a stylus for a capacitive screen (phone, tablet).

The third function is still the mystery...? What is the notch for?
