I wasn't sure where this should go, so here it is.

R.A.F. Brize Norton in the early 70s and I would have been in the poo, so to speak, if I had been seen taking photos on the pans!

I flew, once, in an Avro Anson and I was an aircraft electrician for 5 years on the Bristol Britania in the background when I was stationed at Lyneham, followed by 2 1/2 years in Singapore, then back to Blighty to R.A.F.Brize Norton for 5 years on the wonderful VC10s

Unfortunately I also worked on the Shorts Belslugs, sorry Belfasts too. They were one of the worst aircraft ever designed and I'm convinced they were designed by the team who designed the camels, the humped ones in the desert!

My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!

When I was at Lyneham the other aircraft there were the Comet 2s and 4Cs. They were good aircraft to work on too.

There's a canberra parked there too. I worked on the PR7s at R.A.F. Tengah Singapore. Another lovely aircraft.

A Gloucester Javlin photographed from my bunk window at R.A.F. Lyneham

The driver and nav quite often wouldn't strap in until both engines were started as it wasn't unknown for them to catch fire on startup! If/when that happened the normal exit route was along the wing and jump off the tip. Not the best aircraft in R.A.F. service!

These were parked on the same strip of pand the Javlin above was on. Caln Road pans, Lyneham in the days long before the Fat Alberts (C130s) got there. Once again, taken from my bunk.

Bristol Proteus engine, cowls open on a Britannia at Lyneham. My main interest as a elekky on it was the AC generator sat right at the bottom

The Proteus was very short due to the air pathway. In through the inake, 180º turn to flow forward through the entry guide vanes and compressor. Then a 2nd 180º through the turbine and out of the back. the engine was also used in Royal Navy ships, hovercraft and in electric generators, usually for a backup power supply to important installations. A very versatile bit of kit.
