Unfortunately I also worked on the Shorts Belslugs, sorry Belfasts too. They were one of the worst aircraft ever designed and I'm convinced they were designed by the team who designed the camels, the humped ones in the desert! So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!

The driver and nav quite often wouldn't strap in until both engines were started as it wasn't unknown for them to catch fire on startup! If/when that happened the normal exit route was along the wing and jump off the tip. Not the best aircraft in R.A.F. service! My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!

Caln Road pans, Lyneham in the days long before the Fat Alberts (C130s) got there. Once again, taken from my bunk. My main interest as a elekky on it was the AC generator sat right at the bottom Image hosted by forum (1034963) © Jonzjob [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff. The Proteus was very short due to the air pathway. In through the inake, 180º turn to flow forward through the entry guide vanes and compressor. Then a 2nd 180º through the turbine and out of the back. the engine was also used in Royal Navy ships, hovercraft and in electric generators, usually for a backup power supply to important installations. A very versatile bit of kit. My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!
