Back in February, B&H was selling this lens for $1799.00, it's currently $2199.00

Abe's Of Maine has it for $1519.00

We wrote this article about Abe's of Maine in 2014.

I don't think the advice has changed since then, judging by the number of people who still report the bait-and-switch happening today.

Whew! I'm so glad I asked. But I still don't understand why B&H went back up to $2199.00? It was selling for $1799.00 for months.

Thank you for the advice and suggestions so far. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with Canon's Refurbished lenses?

Great option if they have in stock. It comes with the one year warranty like new ones do. You will pay tax however.

Not lenses, but two refurb cameras, which looked and performed like new.

Canon's instant (dealer) rebates expired last week, so the prices have temporarily gone up. There will probably be more opportunities later in the year, if you're able to wait.

I bought a refurbished 100-400 mk2. First shots from it were amazing. 3 years later, I’m still surprised at the quality of the images that lens produces. Can’t imagine that a new, non-refurb could be better. I also bought a refurb 5D3. Had to replace the shutter on that camera - after 350,000 clicks. That camera is still working well 2 years after it got the new shutter. Refurbs are an excellent choice if you are on a budget. Also watch for the occasional sale on refurbs. You could save 10% or 15%.

I purchased a refurbished 100-400 mark 2 from Canon on Dec 16, 2019. The best deals seem to pop up before and after Thanksgiving, though 15% off deals pop up several times a year. The lens looks and operates like brand new.
